Martin Luther King: I Have a Dream

On this Martin Luther King holiday I only thought it would be right to post one of the greatest speaches of all time by the great leader Dr Martin Luther King.  Keep in mind that this man’s view of the world was a clear Biblical view and it shines forth in this speach.

Transcript/Log: Martin Luther King at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom (August 28, 1963)

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina Relief Trip

We, the relief team from SSEFC had our first training meeting last night for our trip down to hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans.  You can find previous post on the trip here and here.

We have or maybe 21 people signed up for the trip, I am so encouraged.  We had an original dream goal of thirty people and I must admit that I thought that was insane.  I was thinking if 10 people agreed to go I would be greatly impressed.  Shows what I know.  More on humility 101 later…

The team is composed of 10 females and 10 males.  Two of the males are high school aged youth.  Now who would have foreseen this?  This whole thing is just so odd how it is working out.

We have already had people step forward and volunteer to manage all the transportation, housing and financial issues.  We have even had people step forward to gather encouraging reading materials etc for the people that we will be coming into contact with and serving.

I must admit, I am a bit on edge.  I always have a tendency to think that I am in charge of things like this and then all the details freak me out.  Lord, help me to relax and realize that you are really in charge of this project.

If you are the praying sort I ask that you pray for protection of the team while we are down there.  The mold and disease issues that they are running into down there are pretty severe.  Also I ask that you would pray for team unity and a team filled with joy while having the opportunity to serve those in dire need.

Fear mongering over Alito

Look at this headline from Yahoo news: Democrats fear Alito may vote to outlaw abortion – Yahoo! News. The headine is just screaming fear mongering.

While it is true that Alito is strongly prolife and that he has made statements saying Roe v Wade was wrongly decided. If he voted to over turn Roe v Wade, it would not make Abortion illegal.  What would in fact happen is that the issue would be thrown back to the states where it can be decided on a state by state basis.

It is at the state level where much of the real domocracy happens.  This is where the people get involved in local politics and have more say as to what is going on.

If this were to occur, what would most likely happen is that Republican would lose some national prominance.  You see the Republican party is by and large the Prolife party and pole and pole shows that most Americans are actually prolife. So removing this issue from federal politics would have the result of making Republicans find other issues to claim.  While most Republicans would hate this lose of power and prominance, it is actually the right thing to do.

So Liberals should act to confirm Alito for their own self interest.  Or I guess they could decide not to confirm him and remain the party of yesteryear for another generation.  I guess either way we are in a win win situation.

Go Sam!

Islam to Prepare for ‘messiah’

I an recent article Iran leader: Islam to ‘rule the world’  Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proclaims

Islam must prepare to rule the world, … We must believe in the fact that Islam is not confined to geographical borders, ethnic groups and nations. It’s a universal ideology that leads the world to justice,

Ahmadinejad said Jan. 5, according to Mehran Riazaty, a former Iran analyst for the Central Command of the Coalition Forces in Baghdad.

And liberals think conservative Christians are dangerous. If these people somehow gain world domination, those that believe liberal doctrines with be the first to be illiminated by this guy and his ilk.

Book Review: Sex and Love

My friend Lyndon Perry posted a very well thought out and insightful book review on "Sex and Love."

This is not a "how to" manual.

It is a "how to think" analysis of human sexuality and whether or not we will develop loving, intimate relationships in order to live healthy, integrated lives. It is not a handbook on what to do in the bedroom, rather it is a resource on what makes the bedroom experience fulfilling. It is not, however, for the casual reader.

Dorm Brothels

Chuch Colson at Break Point has such an important commentary today about what is really going on within our college dorms that I had to pass it on.  One student says "Peer pressure and living arrangements on campus make promiscuity “practically obligatory.”

Wake up parents.  BTW this also happens in our "Christain"  Schools.

Destroying the Icons of Radical Feminism

This morning Bill Bennett had Kate O’Beirne of National Review Online on his show mostly discussing the Sam Alito Supreme Court Judicial Court confirmation hearings that are getting under way.

O’Beirne recently wrote a piece  that outlines her dream speech that she would have a Republican senator give regarding the myth that people like Senator Dianne Feinstein actually represent all women when it comes to the issue of abortion and other “womens” issues.

She goes on to argue…

A 2003 poll by the Center for the Advancement of Women, headed by Faye Wattleton, an ally of Senator Feinstein’s from her days as the celebrated president of Planned Parenthood, found that 51 percent of women would only allow abortion in cases of rape or incest or to save the life of the mother. Another 17 percent of women wanted to see abortions more widely available than that, but with more restrictions. So, that survey found 68 percent of women disagreeing with Senator Feinstein’s position on abortion.

During the same show Bill and Kate were discussing her new book Women Who Make The World Worse

One review at Amazon.com says

As a woman, Kate O’Beirne can say things a male commentator could never get away with. In her long-awaited first book, she takes on America’s leading feminists—including Hillary Clinton, Gloria Steinem, Eleanor Smeal, Maureen Dowd, Kate Michelman, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and even Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw. She confronts them with hard evidence of how women like them have done more harm than good over the last four decades.

This is a must read book to defend against the lies and distortions of the ultra left.

More on Gold

Just ran across more information on investing in Gold.

Link: Through a Gold Bug’s Eyes.

Don’t pity gold hoarders. Sure, when it’s slumping, as is often the case in boom years and when the U.S. dollar is strong, they’re ridiculed as eccentric and archaic. But this year they’ve enjoyed plenty of vindication. Earlier in December the yellow metal topped $540 per ounce, a 24-year high. Closing the year around $519, it has plenty of analysts jumping on the bandwagon.

This Man Should Not Be on The Bench!

This is insane to me!  Check this out: Judge gives child-rapist 60-day sentence.  "No longer believes in punishment: ‘Anger doesn’t solve anything’"

Who is talking anger?  We are talking justice.  The action requires justice!  There is no anger involved at all.  At least not if you are looking at it from a criminal justice system situation.  They just carry out justice with no emotion what so ever.

It appears as if this man no longer has the ability to judge.  It is time we move for impeachment!  Impeach Judge Edward Cashman.  He is no longer able to judge wisely.   Yes indeed the people to have the ability to impeach judges.  It is time we dusted off those old statutes and put them into practice.

American Corporations: Leading the Gay Agenda

Over the Christmas holiday my brother in law (BIL) and I managed to embarrass my wife my sister and my brother by talking openly about the damage homosexuality has done to the Catholic Church.  How did this simple little discussion embarrass these people you ask?  Well, we were out for dinner in a trendy part of south Minneapolis know for it’s high concentration of homosexuals and we were being served by what was most likely a homosexual and there was a homosexual couple sitting next to us.

Of course we had had a glass of wine or two by then so we were talking with voices that were louder than normal and we were probably moving our hands and arms gesticulating wildly as we were trying to make our points more firmly.

Birthday celebration

Picture from the loud event….lol

Well, my brother in law was has found a fantastic post on freerepublic "The Corporate Curtain" commenting on how Corperate America is also in the fray pushing the homosexual agenda.

If you are a lib, you will hate this article but you will not be able to dispute it.  If you are a conservative you will be yelling out loud I told you so or I knew it was like that…

My BIL, John comments…

As you can see, most corporations have bought in to the gay agenda.  The homosexuals and their supporters have these companies.

So my question is…and I think this is what Drew Mariani was getting at….if we boycott them all, how do we continue to enjoy the modern conveniences we’ve become accustomed to?

Corporations are amoral and will only go where the dollars go.  They know they can push Christians around because of our general peaceful attitude.  With the homosexuals, they know that it will be a total nightmare if they go against them.

I realize some will say I’m being judgemental, but then shall we just let the world go to the wolves?

Anyone care to guess where this agenda will stop?  I have my own opinions, but I’ll withhold them for now….

I for one am very bold on this point.  Unless there is a massive Christian revival, meaning people turing back to the God of the Bible, we will continue as Robert Bork wrote Slouching Towards Gomorrah.  This is not diffucult to see, yet most will refuse to see it.

Check out the article.  Thanks John.

Listening to our enemies

I don’t get it, why would anyone in their right mind not want our government that is charged with the protection of the citizenry to listen in on our enemies conversations?  Ann Coulter discusses this question and more in her commentary Why we don’t trust you with national security.

This is a great read.  Enjoy.

Hurricane Katrina Relief Trip

The plan making process continues to progress for my trip to “war torn” New Orleans.  If you recall from a previous post,  I will be leading a group from my church as we go down to New Orleans to help serve the poorest of the poor to attempt to help the people of this ravaged area get back on their feet.   We will be working with John Gerhardt of Urban Impact and Castle Rock Community Church in their recovery efforts.

The trip will be from February 4th through the 12th.  We will be driving some vans down there in an effort to get the best bang for our transportation buck.  Driving the vans will take us two days to get down to New Orleans.

We currently have nineteen people signed up for the trip and I know there are a few more who are still considering it.  I am greatly encouraged by this awesome response.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

We still need to get some people lined up to fill certain key roles; you know like transportation coordinator, or housing coordinator.  I hope to get those people in place in the next week.

I would greatly appreciate your prayers for wisdom and energy for me personally while leading this effort.  Also please pray for all the right people to come along and for unity in the group and also safety for all the team.  Thank you in advance for your prayers.

Prayer of Joe Wright

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.

Are you buying Gold Yet?

I am not a professional investor, I am not an investment counselor and frankly I’m not that good of an investor at all.

That being said, I can ask the question, have you bought any Gold yet?  I have been buying actual gold or gold stocks for the past 5 years.  I have been doing this because of personal investment studying I have been doing over the years.  I have come to the conclusion that the market goes through very long cycles that for the most part are driven by interest rates and the direction of interest rates.  This means are interest rates going up or going down.

Currently we are in a cycle where interest rates are generally going up.  While an economy is in that cycle, generally we will experience inflation meaning the price of most things will go up.   But also in that environment both stocks and real estate tend to struggle.

So, let’s take a look at how gold investments have been doing.  GLD is an index of companies that mine for gold.   It’s one year return is about 25%.  That is not too shabby.

The Tocqueville Gold Fund (TGLDX) from it’s low of 29.75 last May to a current high of 42.92 your return would have been more than 30%.

Even a more interesting play may be ProFunds Precious Metals Ultra Fund (PMPIX).  This fund is hedged so it’s movement is even greater than the market as a whole.  This means when is goes up, it goes up more than the market, but when it goes down, it goes down more than the market.  From it’s low of approximately $20 in May to it’s recent high of $45.22 it has returned more than 100%.  Can you say DUDE????

Now, these investments are NOT for the faint of heart and you must watch them closely. But, I don’t think we are near the end of the run yet.  Again, I believe this trend is driven by interest rates and the rates are on a long term upward trend.  Also, if you listen to any talk radio at all you hear everyone talking about investing in real estate.  Even grandma is talking about investing in real estate.  Whenever everyone on the street is talking about an investment, it is time to get out of that investment.

Well let me ask you, are all your friends talking about investing in Gold yet?  I doubt it.  Watch gold carefully and consider getting some exposure to gold in your portfolio.

Remember, you are completely responsible for your investment decisions.  Enjoy your investing!!!

Gay Marriage: Let the People Decide

It seems that in every state were this issue of gay marriage goes to the people for a vote, it gets voted down.  It has happened in ultra liberal California and it is about to happen in super ultra liberal Massachusetts.  That is unless the gay rights activists get their way.  They are trying to have the Ballot initiative stopped.  So tell me, who are the radicals here?

16 Yr Old Goes to Iraq

Have you heard about the 16 yr old that went to Iraq without telling his parents?  We have a 16 yr old and our eyebrows go up when he talks with his friends about a trip down the Mississippi all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.  But this is even bigger than that.  Why did he choose to go?

There is a struggle in Iraq between good and evil, between those striving for freedom and liberty and those striving for death and destruction. You are aware of the heinous acts of the terrorists: Women and children massacred, innocent aid workers decapitated, indiscriminate murder. You are also aware of the heroic aspirations of the Iraqi people: liberty, democracy, security, normality. Those terrorists are not human but pure evil. For their goals to be thwarted, decent individuals must answer justice’s call for help … So I will.

Is this not gutsy?  Man am I impressed.

Kwanzaa History

Ann Coulter calls a spade a spade when she comments on Kwanzaa…

I believe more African-Americans spent this season reflecting on the birth of Christ than some phony non-Christian holiday invented a few decades ago by an FBI stooge. Kwanzaa is a holiday for white liberals, not blacks.

It is a fact that Kwanzaa was invented in 1966 by a black radical FBI stooge, Ron Karenga, aka Dr. Maulana Karenga. Karenga was a founder of United Slaves, a violent nationalist rival to the Black Panthers and a dupe of the FBI.

Why do leftists and the main stream media keep dumping this crap of Kwanzaa on us?

Movie Review: Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe

I went to “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” with my entire family (except for the little tike that was at the cousins house).  The movie is of course based on the book of the same name by C. S. Lewis.

My two oldest sons had already seen it but they had loved it so much that they wanted to go again with the family.  My oldest son was so enamored by it that he declined going out with a bunch of his friends in order to “be with family.”  Right!  He is 16, good grief.

Well, the movie was spectacular.  I had seen other animated versions of this story and they were all like cheap toys in comparison to this visual masterpiece.

My kids have read the Chronicles of Narnia so many times that they have basically memorized the stories.  They are also huge movie critics and if a story is changed or scenes are cut out from the book, they get agitated or sometimes even made.  Recent examples of movies that have been very frustrating to the kids are Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series.  They cut so much out of the movies because of interest of time and this just drives my children crazy.  But this movie was so very close to the original that is was just a pleasure.  I noticed there were a few lines added for comic relief or a visual element added for effect but that was not in the least bit distracting.

The computer generated creatures were very good and very realistic.  It was so weird seeing Mr. Tumnus the fawn which is bottom half deer and top half man. He was walking around with complete natural movement so that you thought he was a real being.  Aslan the lion looked exactly like a real lion.  It was remarkable.

The most remarkable occurrence of the evening was that my wife even loved the movie.  She has never liked the fantasy or mythology genre but this one was different.  It was so realistic that you were just pulled into the story and it became real.  For my wife to like this movie is like a rating of four thumbs up.  Great job Walden Media and Disney!
