Eye of the Beholder
A Visual Journey
Photography by Wayne Moran

What happens when a unique visual style and powerful substance come together in one coffee table sized volume?

Award-winning photographer Wayne Moran shows you the answer to that question in his inspiring first publication Eye of the Beholder (120 pp., tpb, $49.95), a collection of inspiring photographs from his newly updated portfolio of landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, nature and people.

Dave Parker, acclaimed artist and photographer, says, "Wayne Moran’s artistic eye is a gift to his audience and his colleagues alike. As a fellow photographer, I have had the pleasure of working with him as he seeks the right conditions for breathtaking photographs. His work tells the rest of the story: an arresting collection of some of the finest images I have seen."  Find Dave’s work at www.davidaparker.com

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”  For photographer, Wayne Moran, beauty appears in many forms through the artistic lens of his camera.  Moran spent more than three years capturing key locations in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area, the Midwest and the desert southwest to produce this exquisite collection of 110 color and black & white photographs.  A bold and creative assortment of images, Eye of the Beholder, will transport you to places you would rather be.  You will be held captive by the raw splendor of landscape, the intensity of the city, the art of architecture, the magnificence of nature and the unique character of people.  Make this inspirational book a treasured addition to your library or a new companion for your coffee table!

Karen Hunnicutt-Meyer, Photographer/artist, compares the works of Wayne Moran to a quote by Kahlil Gibran who said, “We live only to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting” Wayne’s book will take you on a journey to help you discover the beauty of Minnesota and surrounding areas. It is filled with sensational photography that includes her favorite “jaw-dropping” night images of Minneapolis. You can reach Karen through her website at http://www.karenhunnicuttphotography.com .

Deirdre Butler Derby says, "Wayne Moran has captured some of the most revered places in our time and history. Through his photography, we are able to gain a true sense of place and element defined by masterfully crafted images that hold us breath abated. Minnesota has never looked more beautiful."  Find Deirdre's work here http://costellos.etsy.com .

Originally uploaded by !!WaynePhotoGuy.

This was part of our recent family outing to the North Shore of Minnesota. If you are not familiar, this is along the magestic Lake Superiour one of the five Great Lakes. We went to several state parkes and hiked and explored. The weather was the best of the entire summer!! It was truely a great time.

This was all part of a trip taking my second son off to college. So of course, it was a bitter sweet time…

This particular shot is the historic Split Rock Lighthouse. This was an amazing situation. I was set up much further south to take a shot, Then a real professional photographer comes by and starts to chat. He says something like, do you know there is going to be a full moon to night coming up right over there at this time… etc… I said, I had no clue (Which is generally true in much of life, ask my wife and kids. I digress…). Anyway he showed me everything… It was an awesome learning experience… It was obvious this person knew a ton and the best part was that he was willing to share.

That photographer was John Caughlan of Superior Photographs . Thank you John. ;-D

When I woke up this early Saturday morning the temperature had dropped significantly throughout the evening and often in those conditions you get the magical fog that forms. I was not disappointed… I think I found some peaceful magic…

Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum

Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum
Originally uploaded by !!WaynePhotoGuy.

The other evening, I had the awesome opportunity to get out shooting with an up and coming photographer (Ava who does not have an active flickr account at the moment).

The top location on our list was the Weisman Art Museum on the University of Minnesota Campus.

And I quote…
"Housed in a striking stainless steel and brick building designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Weisman Art Museum offers an educational and friendly museum experience. The museum's collection features early 20th century American artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Marsden Hartley, as well as a diverse selection of contemporary art. A teaching museum for the University of Minnesota and the community, the Weisman provides a fresh, engaging arts experience through an array of programs and a changing schedule of exhibitions."

on our way out to the location it was all cloudy and gray with no interesting light…. And then the sun broke out… ;-DDD

Awesome!!!!

Eagan has an incredible reputation for theater.

You may remeber the tv show Greece, You’re the one that I want.
www.nbc.com/Grease/
The girl that won that show, Laura Ossness, is from Eagan and had been very involved in Eagan High School and community theater. And now, at least one in the cast has been on broadway so again, it is a very high level of skill.

So we has parents are also very excite.

1. To have fun with them.
2. To try to figure out the nuances of flash photography.

Well I certainly did have fun and I think they did also, but I also learned a ton about flash photography.
After tons of failed shots I managed to get a few good ones…

Badlands National Park

So this whole purpose of this trip was…
1. To get away from normal life and to get refreshed a little bit.
2. To hike.
3. To learn some new techniques…
4. And to capture a certain picture that I had in my minds eye.

That certain picture was to be the majestic badlands (The grand canyon of the Midwest) in morning or evening light, you know, sunrise or sunset time frame.
Well it was only the first evening that we were there did we get any light conditions like I was looking for. So while I did not get the perfect shot I was looking for, I did have a great adventure.

Four guys from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, went to the SD badlands for an early spring adventure. The guys were Dave Parker, Bob Martin, Barry Moore and moi (thank you Atlantys ).

It was 87F this particular afternoon and by the next morning it was 35F and the next day we had snow… ;-D

Twin Cities Staycation Solution!!!

Have you ever wondered what in the world is there to do in and around the twin cities that is new and interesting and fun? Has the terrible recession got you thinking that you will not be able to take a vacation this summer but instead you will have to take a staycation instead to save money?

Well I have the perfect solution for you!!

The new Moon Minneapolis and St. Paul (Moon Handbooks)
travel book is full of all kinds of great things to do in the twin cities. Sure there are some of the things that you have already know about but still have not done, but there are also all kinds of things that you would never think of like urban spelunking.

So this is a must have book if you or your kids have ever said I am bored…

But that is not all, this book just so happens to be sporting one of my pictures on the cover of the book! The cover image is one of my most popular images, the classic “Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge.” Now that is cool!!!

If you buy the book, feel free to let me know and then I will be glad to sign it for you. That way, you get a great book, a great vacation and a keepsake all in one fell swoop!!!

On our way out to the Bad land sof South Dakota Barry convinced us to stop off at Okaton, SD which is a ghost town.

Barry did the reasearch ahead of time to see where the ghost towns will be in a 50 mile radius of our planned destinations.

Barry enjoyed this place a ton. I must say It was fascinating..
