The other evening, I had the awesome opportunity to get out shooting with an up and coming photographer (Ava who does not have an active flickr account at the moment).

The top location on our list was the Weisman Art Museum on the University of Minnesota Campus.

And I quote…
"Housed in a striking stainless steel and brick building designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Weisman Art Museum offers an educational and friendly museum experience. The museum's collection features early 20th century American artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Marsden Hartley, as well as a diverse selection of contemporary art. A teaching museum for the University of Minnesota and the community, the Weisman provides a fresh, engaging arts experience through an array of programs and a changing schedule of exhibitions."

About waynem

As a Minnesota based photographer and artist I have been greatly influenced by the Upper Midwest. I focus my skills and energies on portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and fine art work. My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then finally deciding what to capture. The result is images that deeply touch people's emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams. My images are used commercially by companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary to communicate their shared vision and values. Book and magazine publishers have featured my images on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the decor of many fine homes.

    What is this building about?
I was doing a project and I was just wondering?

I don’t know.. that would be a great research project.

I am conducting research on this building for a paper. It is Gehrys last building to be designed strictly by hand (he moved to CATIA and now Digital Project – his own design software.) If you read Conversations with Frank Gehry, the book, he explains everything from client demands to his firms personal demands that all influenced his design. It’s not even done yet, they are doing an expansion (which was anticipated) set to be complete summer 2011. He was attempting to emulate the look of reflecting light on water (relate to Mississippi)..

  5. Wayne M says:

All the best on your research Zach.
